SATs meeting - Monday 14th November 6.30pm - crèche available. Please let Miss Hurrell or Miss Paul if you are able to attend and if you need a place in the crèche.
Here are the links to useful documents and practise papers that we will be referring to in the KS1 SATs meeting.
Welcome to the Year 2 web space!
Thank you to all parents that attended the recent parent consultations - if you were unable to make your appointment please see your child's class teacher to rearrange by Friday 11th November.
This term's exciting topic is Fire, Fire! In History we will be learning all about what happened during the Great Fire of London in 1666. On Monday December 12th Year 2 will visit the GFOL exhibit at the Museum of London - if you could help on the day please let you child's teacher know, letters will be sent home in the next few weeks. We will be learning about Samuel Pepys and writing our own diaries - http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/primaryhistory/famouspeople/samuel_pepys/
We have already been visited by the Freshwater Theatre Company where Year 2 got to act out life on Pudding Lane!!
We are extremely lucky to be a part of the Barbican Box Project this year, where we have received an exciting box full of artefacts linked to the Great Fire Of London. We have been partnered up with two amazing artists - Frog Morris and Nicole Mollet who will be working with Year 2 to produce our own Magic Lantern Show! We will be invited to the Barbican in January with the other schools in the project to share our experiences - watch this space for more information and the opportunity to join us at the Barbican in January. If parents would like to see more form the artists take a look at their website - http://www.artofthemagiclantern.co.uk/
In Science we will be investigating 'Light and 'Shadows' - investigating how shadows are formed, which is the best material to use for blackout blind as well as discussing how shadows change over the course of the day. You can do your own Light and Shadow research at home using this website - http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/scienceclips/ages/7_8/light_shadows.shtml
In Maths we will be solving lots of real life problems using the four calculations - addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, as well as problems solving involving time, shape and measures. It is also still really important to keep up with times table practice at home - practise your 2, 5 and 10 times tables then try the 3's!
If your child would like to practise their maths at home then they could play games on Number Gym - http://www.numbergym.co.uk/
Personal logins can be found stuck onto the cover of your child's homework book.
